Why We Exist

Our heartfelt concern focuses on the long-standing need for experienced, dedicated, and knowledgeable personnel throughout the thoroughbred industry.  That is why this program was conceived. Years ago, there were numerous masters within the sport to learn from.  However, with the passage of time, the high standards and art form of equine care have gradually faded.

The core purpose of our program is to educate those with a passion for establishing and maintaining the high standards of care necessary for success in the thoroughbred industry or any equine endeavor.

It should be also noted that this unique program is not exclusively for just the hopeful professional. It can be for those who want to just learn purely for the love of the horse or for individuals who have a genuine interest in basic equine veterinary care.  This curriculum provides knowledge for all.

Celia Bennings

Celia Bennings rode horses before she could walk. A native of Canada and an active member of Pony Club, she became interested in thoroughbred racing at Fort Erie Racetrack, where she became a trainer.  She migrated to South Florida where she galloped for nationally ranked racing stables. From there, she was an integral part of establishing Fawkes Racing Stable, a successful local and national competitor.

However, it was Celia’s efforts as the co-founder of FTRAC (Florida Thoroughbred Retirement & Adoptive Care) that endeared her to professionals throughout the thoroughbred racing industry. Her efforts at finding homes for retired race horses helped establish a new social conscience within the sport. Hundreds of horses have been helped through her direct efforts.

Jeanne Marie Jenks

Back in 1971 Jeanne stepped onto a racetrack after just graduating high school in Cleveland, Ohio. What she thought would be a summer job turned out to be a lifelong love of the thoroughbred horse and a career of more than thirty years in racing.

What amazed her about the experience was although she had worked at stables for other breeds, a good race horse stable expected a lot more of her as an employee. She learned the ropes from the ground up, working her way through the ranks and then trained successfully for years. Her wish now is to pass on the talents that can be applied by a new generation of equestrian professional.
